Reading 1 · Ezekiel 28:1-10
The word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre:  Thus says the Lord GOD:Because you are haughty of heart, you say, “A god am I! I occupy a godly throne in the heart of the sea!”— And yet you are a man, and not a god, however you may think yourself like a god. Oh yes, you are wiser than Daniel, there is no secret that is beyond you. By your wisdom and your intelligence you have made riches for yourself; You have put gold and silver into your treasuries. By your great wisdom applied to your trading you have heaped up your riches; your heart has grown haughty from your riches– therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have thought yourself to have the mind of a god, Therefore I will bring against you foreigners, the most barbarous of nations. They shall draw their swords against your beauteous wisdom, they shall run them through your splendid apparel. They shall thrust you down to the pit, there to die a bloodied corpse, in the heart of the sea. Will you then say, “I am a god!” when you face your murderers? No, you are man, not a god, handed over to those who will slay you. You shall die the death of the uncircumcised at the hands of foreigners, for I have spoken, says the Lord GOD.

Jesus said to his disciples: “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” Then Peter said to him in reply, “We have given up everything and followed you. What will there be for us?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you that you who have followed me, in the new age, when the Son of Man is seated on his throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first.”

Homily

In our first reading from Ezekiel, the Lord speaks directly to the prince of Tyre, whose heart had grown haughty because of his great intelligence, wisdom, and success. Ezekiel gently but firmly sets the truth before him: “You are a man, and not a god.”

In the Gospel, the disciples are astonished when Jesus speaks of how hard it is to enter the Kingdom by human self-reliance. They ask in wonder, “Who then can be saved?”

Jesus looks at them and speaks words that anchor our faith: “For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”

True greatness before God is never about pride or earthly boasting. It is found in humility… in placing our whole trust into the Father’s loving hands.

We saw that beautiful balance of brilliance and humility in Benjamin Vo.

Ben was blessed with an extraordinary mind. At an age when most boys were just discovering simple hobbies, Ben was diving with eager curiosity into coding, complex logic, and cloud technology—learning alongside his dad with sophisticated insight. Yet with all his sharp intellect, Benjamin remained completely unassuming and gentle. He had no arrogance in him. He was the sweetest boy… always smiling, deeply respectful to his parents, and filled with a pure, quiet goodness.

It has been nine weeks since Ben was called home to the Lord. Nine weeks where the absence of his gentle voice and bright curiosity leaves an ache in the quiet moments of each day.

Yet Jesus reminds us today that what is impossible for human strength alone, God accomplishes in His boundless mercy. The Lord promises a hundredfold reward and eternal life to those who trust Him. Ben is safe in that divine promise, held in the joyful light of Heaven.

To Alan, Thao, and dear Ryan: lean into God’s quiet strength whenever the path feels steep. Hold close to one another, and keep moving forward with love and hope for Ryan.

To Ben’s aunts and uncles, everyone joining us in prayer from near and far, children carrying heavy burdens, and every family enduring sorrow: Our Lady wraps you in her mantle of peace. You are seen, loved, and held by God.

Benjamin rests in the everlasting light of Christ… where the pure of heart behold the face of God forever.

The Lord’s Prayer

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
