Saint Willibrord (c. 658–739) was a Northumbrian monk who left England to bring the Gospel to the Frisian people in what is now the Netherlands. Consecrated by the Pope as the first Archbishop of Utrecht, he founded the great abbey of Echternach in Luxembourg, where he died and is buried. He is honored as the Apostle of the Frisians.
Willibrord left his homeland behind and spent his whole life patiently planting faith in unfamiliar soil, undeterred by setbacks and opposition. His gentle perseverance reminds us that love keeps sowing seeds even when the harvest belongs to God alone, and that a quiet, faithful life can light the way for generations.
