Wenceslaus

Saint Wenceslaus was Duke of Bohemia in the 10th century. He was educated by his grandmother, Saint Ludmila, and sought to promote Christianity and peace in his realm. He was martyred by his own brother, Boleslaus, who opposed Wenceslaus's pro-Christian and pro-German policies.

Wenceslaus exemplified Christian leadership and a commitment to peace and justice, even unto death. His willingness to suffer for his faith and his people makes him a patron of Bohemia and a model for leaders.

O God, who in Saint Wenceslaus raised up a leader devoted to your truth and peace, grant that through his intercession, we may strive for justice and charity in all our dealings. May we, like him, prefer your kingdom above all earthly power.
