Vincent served as a deacon in Saragossa, Spain, assisting Bishop Valerius by preaching in his place. During the persecution of Diocletian he was arrested and brought to Valencia, where he endured cruel tortures rather than deny his faith. He died a martyr around the year 304, and his witness spread quickly through the early Church.
Vincent stayed faithful and even joyful through suffering he could not escape, trusting that God was with him in it. His courage reminds us that pain does not have the last word, and that love and faith can shine brightest in the darkest hours.
Saint Vincent, faithful deacon and martyr, help us to stay close to God when suffering comes, and watch over Ben and all the children of God in heaven. Amen.
