Saint Saturninus (also known as Sernin) was the first bishop of Toulouse in Gaul, serving during the third century. According to early tradition, he was martyred around the year 257 when pagans of the city tied him to a bull that dragged him to his death after he refused to sacrifice to their gods. His memory was venerated from ancient times, and the Basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse was built over his tomb.
Saturninus preached the Gospel in a city where the faith was unknown and remained faithful even when fidelity cost him his life. His witness reminds us that quiet, steady evangelization can transform a whole region, and that courage in small daily refusals prepares the heart for greater trials.
