Saint Robert of Newminster

Saint Robert of Newminster (c. 1100–1159) was an English priest who joined the monks who founded Fountains Abbey and later became the first abbot of Newminster Abbey in Northumberland. Known for his gentleness, austerity, and deep life of prayer, he guided his community for over twenty years and founded several daughter monasteries.

Robert shows us that a quiet, faithful life of prayer can build something lasting — he led not by force but by humility and steady kindness. His example invites us to seek God in silence and to care patiently for those entrusted to us.

Saint Robert of Newminster, gentle shepherd of souls, pray for us, that we may find peace in prayer and lead others to God through quiet faithfulness. Amen.
