Saint Robert Bellarmine (1542–1621) was an Italian Jesuit cardinal, theologian, and Doctor of the Church who taught at the Roman College and became one of the most important defenders of the Catholic faith during the Reformation era. He wrote influential catechisms, served as a spiritual guide, and was known for his personal simplicity and generosity to the poor despite his high office.
