Saint Pantaleon (also known as Panteleimon) was a physician in Nicomedia who was martyred around the year 305 during the persecution of the Emperor Diocletian. Tradition holds that he treated the poor without charge, and he is venerated in the West as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and in the East as a great martyr and healer.
Pantaleon used his medical skill as an act of charity, caring for those who could not repay him, and he remained faithful to Christ even at the cost of his life. His example invites us to place our talents at the service of others and to hold fast to our faith under pressure.
Lord God, who gave Saint Pantaleon the grace to heal the sick and to bear witness to you unto death, grant that we may serve others generously and remain steadfast in faith. Amen.
