Saint Matthias

Saint Matthias was chosen by the apostles to take the place of Judas Iscariot, as recounted in the Acts of the Apostles, after having followed Jesus from His baptism by John until the Ascension. Tradition holds that he preached the Gospel and died a martyr's death.

Matthias reminds us that God calls quietly faithful people — he had walked with Jesus all along, unnoticed, before being chosen. His life shows that steady, hidden faithfulness matters to God, and that He can call us to a great purpose at any moment.

Saint Matthias, faithful apostle chosen by God, pray for us, that we may remain steadfast in quiet faithfulness and be ready when the Lord calls.
