Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647–1690) was a French Visitation nun at the monastery of Paray-le-Monial. Beginning in 1673 she received visions of Jesus revealing his Sacred Heart, and with the help of her confessor, Saint Claude de la Colombière, she spread devotion to the Sacred Heart, including the practice of the First Fridays and the Holy Hour. She was canonized in 1920.

Margaret Mary shows us that God's heart is tender and burning with love, especially for those who are suffering or feel forgotten. Though she was often misunderstood and doubted, she trusted quietly in the love Jesus had shown her, teaching us to rest our own wounded hearts in his.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, so full of love, hold Ben and all our dear ones close to you; through the prayers of Saint Margaret Mary, teach our grieving hearts to trust in your tenderness. Amen.
