Saint John Vianney (1786–1859) was a French parish priest who served the small village of Ars for over forty years. Though he struggled through his seminary studies, he became renowned for his holiness, spending up to sixteen hours a day hearing confessions as pilgrims came from across France to seek his counsel. He is the patron saint of parish priests.
John Vianney shows that greatness in God's eyes comes not from talent or brilliance but from faithful, humble love poured out for others day after day. He gave his whole life to one small place and its people, and through that quiet steadfastness God touched countless hearts.
