Saint Jerome was born in Stridon, Dalmatia, around 347 AD. He was a priest, theologian, and historian, best known for translating the Bible into Latin, a version known as the Vulgate. He spent many years living as an ascetic in the Syrian desert before settling in Bethlehem, where he established a monastery and continued his scholarly work.
