Saint Guntramnus (also called Gontran) was a sixth-century king of Burgundy, a grandson of Clovis, who died in 592. Amid the violence of his age he came to deep repentance for his own sins, and spent his later years in fasting, prayer, and open-handed care for the poor and the sick. He protected the Church, ransomed captives, and was so loved by his people that they honored him as a saint at his death.
Guntramnus shows that no past, however heavy, is beyond God's mercy — he let sorrow for his failures turn into tenderness toward others. His quiet, daily generosity reminds us that holiness can grow in ordinary responsibilities, and that a heart softened by grief can become a source of comfort for many.
