Saint Giles was a hermit who lived in the seventh and eighth centuries in southern France, near the mouth of the Rhône, where a monastery later called Saint-Gilles grew up around him. Tradition holds he chose a hidden life of prayer and solitude, and he became one of the most beloved saints of medieval Europe, counted among the Fourteen Holy Helpers and invoked especially by the poor and those living with disability.
Giles shows that a quiet, hidden life given entirely to God can bless generations far beyond it. He reminds us to seek God in stillness, to care for the weak and the wounded, and to trust that no act of love or prayer is ever wasted.
