Saint Genevieve was born around 422 in Nanterre, near Paris, and consecrated her life to God as a young girl after meeting Saint Germanus of Auxerre. When Attila the Hun threatened Paris in 451, she urged the people to stay and pray rather than flee, and the city was spared. She later brought grain by river to feed Paris during a blockade, and after her death around 502 she became the beloved patroness of the city.
Genevieve shows how one steady, prayerful heart can hold an entire community together in its most frightening hour. She did not fight with weapons but with trust in God and practical love — calming fear, feeding the hungry, and refusing to abandon her people.
