Eulogius was a priest and scholar in ninth-century Córdoba, Spain, during a time when Christians lived under harsh restrictions. He encouraged and recorded the stories of the Christian martyrs of Córdoba, and was chosen to be archbishop of Toledo. Before he could be consecrated, he was arrested for sheltering a young convert named Leocritia and was beheaded in the year 859.
Eulogius shows us the quiet courage of standing beside the suffering — he did not seek death, but he refused to abandon those in danger or let their stories be forgotten. His faithfulness reminds us that love keeps memory alive, and that gentleness and bravery can live in the same heart.
