Elisha was a prophet in ninth-century-BC Israel, called from his plow when the prophet Elijah cast his mantle over him. He received a double portion of Elijah's spirit after watching his master taken up in the fiery chariot, and his long ministry was marked by miracles of mercy — healing Naaman the leper, multiplying loaves for the hungry, and restoring a child to life. He is honored on June 14 in the Roman Martyrology.
Elisha left everything at once — oxen, field, and family — to follow God's call, showing that no possession is worth clinging to when the Lord invites us. His miracles were tender and practical: feeding the hungry, healing the sick, comforting the grieving, reminding us that God's power most often arrives as quiet kindness to ordinary people.
