Saint Edward the Confessor was King of England from 1042 to 1066, remembered for his deep piety, gentleness, and generosity to the poor. He founded and rebuilt Westminster Abbey, where he was buried, and was canonized in 1161. His feast is kept on October 13, the day his relics were solemnly transferred to a shrine in the Abbey.
Edward held great earthly power yet used it with humility, placing prayer, mercy, and care for the poor above ambition. He shows us that holiness is possible in any station of life, and that true greatness is measured by gentleness and trust in God.
Lord God, who crowned Saint Edward with gentleness and mercy, help us to use whatever is entrusted to us in humble service of others, and gather those we love into Your eternal kingdom. Amen.
