Saint Edmund was King of East Anglia in the 9th century. He was martyred by the Great Heathen Army in 869 for refusing to renounce his Christian faith and become a vassal. His body was later enshrined at Bury St Edmunds Abbey.
Saint Edmund exemplifies unwavering faith and courage in the face of immense pressure. He chose martyrdom over apostasy, demonstrating the ultimate commitment to Christ. His example encourages us to stand firm in our convictions.
O God, who gave Saint Edmund the grace to suffer martyrdom for Christ, grant us, we pray, through his intercession, the courage to bear witness to you in our own lives. Amen.
