Saint Dominic of Silos (c. 1000–1073) was a Spanish Benedictine monk who became abbot of the monastery of Silos in Castile, restoring it as a center of prayer, learning, and charity. He was known for his care of the poor and for working to ransom Christians held captive, and his tomb became a beloved place of pilgrimage.
