Saint Dominic (c. 1170–1221) was a Spanish priest who founded the Order of Preachers, known as the Dominicans. Moved by the spiritual confusion he encountered while traveling through southern France, he devoted his life to preaching the Gospel with clarity, charity, and deep learning. He died in Bologna in 1221 and was canonized in 1234.
Dominic met error not with anger but with patient teaching, prayer, and a joyful, disciplined life; he was said to speak only to God or about God. His trust in truth and his tenderness toward those who had lost their way remind us that faith is best shared through gentle witness and steady love.
Saint Dominic, faithful preacher of grace, help us to speak the truth with love and to carry the light of Christ gently into every darkness. Amen.
