Saint Cloud, also known as Clodoald, was born around 522, a grandson of King Clovis I and Saint Clotilde of the Franks. After his two brothers were murdered by ambitious uncles seeking the throne, he escaped, renounced all claim to royal power, and became a hermit and monk, later ordained a priest. He founded a community at Nogent near Paris — the town now called Saint-Cloud in his honor — where he served the poor until his death around 560.
Saint Cloud let go of a crown and every worldly claim, choosing instead a hidden life of prayer and quiet service. Having lost his brothers to violence, he answered grief not with vengeance but with forgiveness and a heart given wholly to God. He reminds us that what the world takes from us can open a door to deeper peace in Christ.
Saint Cloud, who traded a kingdom for the quiet riches of God, help us to forgive, to let go, and to trust that nothing loved is ever lost in Christ. Amen.
