Saint Clement I was the fourth Pope, succeeding St. Peter, St. Linus, and St. Cletus. He is known for his letter to the Corinthians, which is one of the earliest Christian documents outside the New Testament and demonstrates the authority of the Bishop of Rome. Tradition holds that he was martyred during the reign of Emperor Trajan.
