Saint Cecilia was a Roman virgin martyr, venerated since ancient times. She is one of the most famous virgin martyrs of the early Church and is mentioned in the Roman Canon of the Mass. Tradition holds she was martyred in Rome during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus, around the 3rd century.
Saint Cecilia is a patron saint of musicians, though the reason for this patronage is debated, possibly stemming from a mistranslation of an antiphon. Her example encourages us to remain steadfast in faith and purity, even in the face of persecution, and to use our gifts for God's glory.
