Catherine de' Ricci (1522–1590) was a Dominican nun in Prato, Italy, who entered the convent as a young teenager and later served for many years as prioress. She was known for her deep devotion to the Passion of Christ and for profound mystical experiences, while also being a practical, warm administrator who counseled many, corresponding with figures such as Saint Philip Neri. She was canonized in 1746.
Catherine shows that deep prayer and everyday duty belong together: the same woman lost in contemplation of the Cross also ran a convent, tended the sick, and answered letters with patient, motherly wisdom. Her life reminds us that love of the suffering Christ is proven in gentle, faithful care for the people right in front of us.
