Saint Bartholomew was one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus, traditionally identified with Nathanael, whom Philip brought to meet the Lord. Jesus praised him as a true Israelite in whom there was no deceit. According to tradition, he preached the Gospel after Pentecost, possibly in Armenia and India, and died a martyr.
Bartholomew's example is one of honest, open-hearted seeking: he questioned whether anything good could come from Nazareth, yet when he met Jesus he believed at once and gave his whole life. He reminds us that God sees and treasures a heart without guile, and that quiet, faithful witness matters as much as fame.
Saint Bartholomew, apostle of pure and honest heart, pray for us, that we may recognize the Lord when he calls and follow him without reserve. Amen.
