Saint Athanasius (c. 296–373) was Bishop of Alexandria in Egypt and is honored as a Doctor of the Church. He devoted his life to defending the divinity of Christ against the Arian heresy, attending the Council of Nicaea and enduring exile five times for holding fast to the true faith. He also wrote the beloved Life of Saint Anthony, which drew countless souls to a deeper following of Christ.
Athanasius shows us that faithfulness is worth every cost — he stood almost alone at times, yet never let hardship or exile shake his trust in who Jesus is. His steadfastness reminds grieving and struggling hearts that God's truth and love hold firm even when the whole world seems against us.
