Saint Andrew was a fisherman from Bethsaida, the brother of Simon Peter, and one of the first apostles called by Jesus. A disciple of John the Baptist before following Christ, he is remembered in the Gospels for bringing his brother Peter to Jesus and for pointing out the boy with the loaves and fishes. Tradition holds that he preached the Gospel after Pentecost and was martyred by crucifixion at Patras in Greece.
Andrew shows us the quiet grace of bringing others to Jesus — his first act after meeting the Lord was to find his brother and say, 'We have found the Messiah.' He teaches that we don't need to be the loudest voice; we simply need to lead the people we love toward Christ and trust Him with the rest.
Saint Andrew, first-called of the apostles, help us to follow Jesus without hesitation and to gently lead those we love into His presence. Amen.
