Saint Albert the Great (c. 1200–1280) was a German Dominican friar, bishop of Regensburg, and one of the most learned men of the Middle Ages, studying everything from theology to the natural sciences. He was the beloved teacher of Saint Thomas Aquinas and was declared a Doctor of the Church; he is the patron saint of scientists.
Albert saw no conflict between faith and the study of God's creation — for him, every star, plant, and creature was a page in a book written by God. His life reminds us that wonder and learning can themselves be a form of prayer, and that a curious mind and a believing heart belong together.
Saint Albert the Great, teacher of truth, help us to see God's hand in all of creation, and to seek Him with both our minds and our hearts. Amen.
