This day is dedicated to the remembrance and prayer for all the faithful departed, especially those in Purgatory. It is a day when the Church collectively intercedes for the purification and eternal rest of the souls of the dead.
The example of All Souls' Day reminds us of the communion of saints, the ongoing connection between the living and the dead, and the importance of charity and prayer for those who have gone before us. It encourages us to live in hope of eternal life and to practice spiritual works of mercy for the dead.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
