Mary Magdalene was a devoted follower of Jesus, whom the Gospels say he freed from seven demons. She stood by him at the cross when many others had fled, and she was the first to see the risen Lord on Easter morning, sent by him to tell the apostles the news — which is why the Church calls her the Apostle to the Apostles.
Mary Magdalene shows that no past defines us once Christ has touched our lives, and that love keeps watch even in the darkest hours. She stayed near the tomb weeping, and it was there, in her grief, that the risen Jesus called her by name — a quiet promise that he meets us in our sorrow too.
