Saint Henry II (973–1024) was Duke of Bavaria and later Holy Roman Emperor, crowned in 1014. With his wife, Saint Cunegund, he used his authority to strengthen the Church, founding the diocese of Bamberg and supporting monasteries and works of charity. He sought to rule justly as a servant of God and died in 1024; he was canonized in 1146.

Henry shows that holiness is possible in any station of life, even amid power and politics — he treated his crown as a trust from God rather than a possession. His care for the poor, the Church, and just governance reminds us to use whatever influence we have, great or small, in loving service of others.

Lord God, who filled Saint Henry with your love and raised him from earthly rule to heavenly glory, help us amid the changing things of this world to seek you with a pure heart. Amen.
