Saint Norbert of Xanten (c. 1080–1134) was a German nobleman who, after a dramatic conversion, gave away his wealth and became an itinerant preacher. In 1120 he founded the Premonstratensian Order (the Norbertines) at Prémontré, France, and in 1126 he became Archbishop of Magdeburg. He was known for his deep devotion to the Holy Eucharist and for reforming the clergy of his time.

Norbert shows that a life can be completely turned around and given to God, no matter how it began. His tender love for the Eucharist reminds us that Jesus stays truly present with us, especially in seasons of sorrow, and his courage in serving others teaches us to spend ourselves generously for the people entrusted to us.

Saint Norbert, lover of the Eucharist, help us to find Jesus truly present with us and to trust him with those we love. Amen.
