Saint Paschal Baylón (1540–1592) was a Spanish shepherd who became a humble Franciscan lay brother, serving his community as doorkeeper and cook. Though he had little formal education, he was known for his deep devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, often spending hours in adoration before the tabernacle. He was canonized in 1690, and Pope Leo XIII later named him patron of Eucharistic congresses and associations.
Paschal shows that holiness does not require importance, learning, or position — he found God in tending sheep, answering doors, and kneeling quietly before the Eucharist. His life reminds us that simple, faithful love, offered day after day in hidden ways, is a path to great sanctity.
