Saint Stanislaus was born around 1030 in Szczepanów, Poland, and became Bishop of Kraków in 1072, where he was known for his care of the poor and his courage in preaching. After he confronted King Bolesław II over the king's injustices, he was killed in 1079, according to tradition while celebrating Mass. He was canonized in 1253 and is a patron saint of Poland.
Stanislaus shows us that a shepherd's love for his people is stronger than fear of the powerful, and that speaking the truth is worth any cost. His witness reminds us that faithfulness to God, even when it leads through suffering, bears fruit that outlasts every earthly power.
