Saint Casilda lived in eleventh-century Spain, the daughter of a Muslim ruler of Toledo. Tradition holds that she secretly carried bread to Christian prisoners, and after a grave illness she was baptized and lived out her days as a hermitess near Briviesca in the region of Burgos, where she died around the year 1050.
Casilda showed mercy quietly, feeding suffering prisoners even when it put her at risk, long before she formally shared their faith. She reminds us that compassion crosses every boundary, and that a hidden life of prayer and kindness can shine for centuries.
