Saint Rupert was a bishop of Worms in the late seventh century who was invited into Bavaria, where he preached the Gospel and baptized Duke Theodo. He settled at the ruined Roman town of Juvavum, which he rebuilt as Salzburg, founding the monastery of Saint Peter and a convent led by his kinswoman Saint Erentrude. He is honored as the apostle of Bavaria and Austria and died around the year 710.
Rupert did not wait for perfect conditions; he built a place of prayer out of ruins, trusting that God could make something living where everything seemed finished. His patient, quiet work — teaching, baptizing, founding communities — reminds us that faith grows through steady love more than grand gestures, and that God rebuilds what looks lost.
