Saint Claude de la Colombière (1641–1682) was a French Jesuit priest known for his preaching and wise spiritual direction. As confessor to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial, he recognized the authenticity of her visions and became a devoted apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Later sent to England as a court preacher, he was falsely accused during a time of persecution, imprisoned, and died shortly after his release, worn out by illness.
Claude teaches us to trust God completely, even when we are misunderstood or suffering — his famous act of confidence in God has comforted countless souls in dark hours. He reminds us that the Heart of Jesus is tender and open to us, especially in grief, and that quiet faithfulness matters more than success.
Saint Claude de la Colombière, teach us to place all our trust in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and hold close those we love who now rest in Him. Amen.Enter today’s Mass → All saints →
