Saint Hilary (c. 310–367) was a convert from paganism who became bishop of Poitiers in Gaul around 350. He defended the divinity of Christ against Arianism, was exiled to Phrygia for several years by Emperor Constantius II, and wrote his great work On the Trinity. He is honored as a Doctor of the Church.
Hilary held fast to the truth of who Jesus is even when it cost him his home and his freedom, and he taught with patience rather than bitterness. His steady faith reminds us that love for Christ can carry us through exile, loss, and every dark season.
Saint Hilary, faithful teacher of the Trinity, help us to hold on to Christ in every trial, and keep those we love close to His heart. Amen.Enter today’s Mass → All saints →
