Saint Gregory of Nyssa (c. 335–395) was a bishop and theologian from Cappadocia, the younger brother of Saint Basil the Great. One of the Cappadocian Fathers, he defended the divinity of Christ against Arianism and took part in the Council of Constantinople in 381. His writings on the Trinity and on the soul's endless journey toward God remain treasured by the Church.
Gregory teaches that the soul never stops growing toward God — every step into His light opens onto more light. In grief, his example reminds us that love does not end at death but keeps reaching upward, and that those we love continue their journey ever deeper into God's embrace.
