Saint Adrian was a North African-born monk who became abbot of a monastery near Naples in the seventh century. Twice offered the office of Archbishop of Canterbury, he humbly declined, instead recommending Theodore of Tarsus and accompanying him to England. As abbot of Saints Peter and Paul in Canterbury for nearly forty years, he made its school a renowned center of learning until his death around the year 710.
Adrian shows us that greatness can lie in quietly helping others shine rather than seeking honors for ourselves. He gave his life to teaching, patiently forming generations of students in faith and wisdom, reminding us that steady, hidden service leaves a light that outlasts us.
